How to pass the Georgia knowledge test

  1. Read the handbook. Every question comes from the official Georgia manuals; the handbook page links to the agency's own copies.
  2. Practice test by test. Each numbered test mixes Georgia law with the national road rules, like the real exam.
  3. Read every explanation. Especially for answers you got right by guessing.
  4. Simulate the real exam on the category page when you pass the tests comfortably.

Georgia written test format

Test Questions Pass mark Minimum age
Car 40 30 correct (10 mistakes allowed) 15 years
Motorcycle 40 30 correct (10 mistakes allowed) 16 years
CDL 50 40 correct (10 mistakes allowed) 18 years

Car. The Georgia knowledge exam has two parts of 20 items each. The road signs test requires 15 correct answers out of 20, and the road rules test requires 15 correct answers out of 20. The minimum age shown is for the Class C Instructional Permit; a Class D Provisional License requires age 16.

Motorcycle. The Class M knowledge exam consists of a special road signs test and a special road rules test plus an on-cycle skills test. DDS does not publish item counts for the motorcycle tests, so the numbers shown mirror the Class C and D structure and are listed as unconfirmed. Minimum age 16 is for the Class M Instructional Permit; a Class M license requires age 17.

CDL. CDL general knowledge test. Georgia issues a CDL from age 18, with a K restriction for intrastate commerce only where applicable. The item count is not published in the Georgia Commercial Driver's Study Guide, so the values shown follow the federal 80 percent standard and are listed as unconfirmed.
